About The Course:
In the Granite® College Essay Workshop, students will spend 4-weeks learning how to tell their story, organize their writing, and create a beautifully polished common app essay for their college applications.
Having a great common app essay is one of the most important parts of a competitive college application. Here at Granite®, we like to tell families that a college application is 1/3 GPA, 1/3 test scores, and finally 1/3 essays and demonstrated interest. Needless to say, if you’ve spent years working on your GPA, spending weeks on creating a wonderful college essay is a no-brainer!
Through this course, students start by reading a host of top-notch essays that have gained students admissions to their dream schools! Students will then work to breakdown “what worked” and “what didn’t work” in these essays. Next, students will be invited to find their own stories through an assortment of mindfulness, group-work, and self-discovery exercises. Once students have chosen a topic they will begin studying the options for best structuring a college essay. Students will learn that compelling college essays are NOT like the five-paragraph essays they have learned to write in school. Finally, everyone (students and Granite Educators) will work together to proofread essays so that students can leave the program feeling confident with their common app essay and ready to apply to colleges in the fall!
